Dereham 5k

Image
My favourite race of the year.  Mainly due to the proximity to home.  A ten minute walk to the start line.  Perfect. Got my race number at the registration which was quick and easy then caught up with Sam and Sharon before we headed to the start line. At the start line we bumped into Chris Vernon and his father in law who were also racing.  Chris used to be a member of Dereham Hockey Club when me and Sam were playing. The race started bang on 9:15 and Sam went off like a rocket to get to the front, I started to follow but realised i'd explode before 1k if i carried on so just got into my own rhythm and focused on getting everything right. Was good to see mum at the 2k mark taking pics. The route is all 90 degree turns and a little out and back through the market place.  So although it is flat it doesn't feel like the quickest. Sam in full flow.  Was good to see the TrainAsOne team out supporting. I even managed a respec...

Random thing this week

So Tuesday morning at work and someone shouted out if anyone fancies being the Aviva Lemur furry mascot for that evening's cup match against Coventry. I said yes thinking why not. Following a brief email conversation with the sponsorship team it was a done deal which included meal and box seats. I turned up at Carrow road at 6:30 and got my ticket from Matt and we had a quick look around the Aviva box where I bumped into Katrina who I used to work with who now works match days at Carrow road hosting. After a bite to eat it was down to the directors entrance to collect my pass and out to meet Captain Canary who give me a pitch side tour of the ground and what I had to do, basically involved no speaking in costume and don't take your head off. Then its a case of high fiving the kids and posing for photos before the official photos with the team captains and mascots before heading off to enjoy the first half. I managed to get a pic of the tunnel and t...

Run Norwich

Image
The event is fantastically well organised and one huge advantage for me working in the city centre is i can register on the friday. The forum in Norwich was decked out with the run Norwich logo and a fair few stalls.  The registration was slick and well organised and could be done from the email you are sent before the registration opens.  The staff were all friendly and quick and efficient. In the race pack you get the following: Magazine which outlines the route, last years race and the usual sponsorship and charity stuff.  Was a good read!.  Your race number with your name on which is a nice touch and the baggage tag and pins. Race Day ! We parked in Chapelfield and wandered through the race village before heading to the start line where I bumped into Frog. I lined up with him and we chatted until the start and I tried to maintain pace with him but my lack of training started to tell early on.  The day was very ...
