Epic Boat Trip - 31/05/23

Image
Today we headed to Penzance to do a rib boat trip round Lands End to Hayles (next to St Ives) with Coast Boat Trips . So up and out early again. As we approached Penzance there was a huge queue of traffic going in the opposite direction at least 2 miles long. Didn’t really see anything to have caused such a queue. Got our first glimpse of St Michaels mount as we made our way to the car park. Was very overcast today and quite a strong wind. We’d deliberately arrived early to give ourselves time to grab an early lunch and let it go down before the boat trip at 12:15. So headed to lavenders bakery for some amazing Cornish pasties and Belgium buns. Kids had monster sausage rolls and cakes. Then we wandered around a few shops before heading to the harbour to start the boat trip.      We were the first to arrive and were met by Eve who was really friendly and chatty, getting us suited up in waterproofs.    Jack arrived in the boat with the previous group and asked who...

Praa Sands - 30/05/23

Image
Today we ventured further afield going to Praa Sands a beautiful wide beach.  Learning from yesterday we set up above the high tide line.     Girls were tired today and a little more lethargic and had brief dips in the sea before sunning themselves. Mel and I had a few games of frisbee and I had a good swim. Afterwards chatting to one of the lifeguards who talked about the area he covers for the season.     He could cover anywhere from Praa sands to Coverack. He’s only been back in the UK for a month after lifeguard in Australia. The girls and Robert were a little tired and just chilled for some of the time. We had some excellent pasties for lunch and the girls had milkshakes agonising over which of the 22 flavours to choose from.   For the afternoon we headed to Porth Levan and had a lovely Cornish afternoon tea in the Twisted current tea room .    Robert wanted the jumbo fish finger sandwich. I got a call about our boat trip booked for tomorrow...

Kynance Cove - 29/05/23

Image
Up early today to get to Kynance cove before the rush but also to get there to beat high tide. Really windy in the car park but we unloaded the car including the paddle board and made the short and steep walk to the beach. Absolutely stunning location with white sand and clear blue water.     We quickly set up beach tent and started to explore the caves before the tide came in and cut off.     The tide is quite surprising here as where we walked to the caves first thing we had to swim to later and my feet couldn’t even touch the ground so the height change must have been over 3 metres. Quite chilly to start with and Mel and I had a cappuccino and a tea.    It soon warmed up though.    Kids were in and out of the sea.  As the tide came in we had to move our base a couple of times and I inflated the paddle board as high tide approached I was able to paddle around to the caves to get some good pictures. Also went out with the kids on the board...

Kennack Sands - Easy Beach Day - 28/05/23

Image
The plan today was not to drive anywhere so we made our way down to the beach and setup the sun tent and it was straight into the water.     Lots of swimming in the clear waters, games of frisbee and stick ball.     Picnic on the beach and we all got a little burnt. We packed up and as we waited for ice creams we got chatting to a lady who was walking the coastal path from Poole to Minehead. Really interesting chatting to her.  Here is the link to her Instagram page where you can track her progress. Back to the caravan for a swim in the site pool before an early tea.    We set off on a geocache walk. The first cache we searched we found a slow worm which made me jump out of my skin and caused the girls to scream.  It was anything but slow Robert couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. The rest of the walk followed the coastal path and the views were spectacular after a little while it headed inland past some lovely little cottages. Robert w...

Journey to Cornwall - 27/05/23

Image
The journey down began early at 4:30 and I was slightly nervous as thought we had a slow puncture but all seemed fine as we set off in the early morning light. The kids were soon sounds asleep in the back of the car. The plan was to head towards Bristol and find somewhere for breakfast around there. The journey to Bristol was really easy and at around 9:45 we finally made our first stop at a place called Ollie’s Cafe for a full English breakfast. The place was packed already with a steady stream of cars coming in and out. Turns out we’d arrived just in time. Initially we thought the waitress said we couldn’t get a table till 11 but it was we had the table till 11. Robert was very excited and managed to break the salt shaker within a minute of us sitting down. The breakfast was excellent and definitely fueled me nicely for the second leg of the journey to Polperro. The second leg was not quite as smooth as we started to hit traffic. It was slow going till Plymouth where we ground to a...
