Learnings for Next Time

I've had a couple of weeks to reflect on the experience and what have I learnt? Better preparation and get there a little earlier next time.  Pack transition bags ahead of time and include options for all weather. I should have included overshoes for the bike, especially considering how wet it was. Socks, talc and vaseline.  Just these alone would have meant knocking minutes off the run time.  The sore feet meant i was soooooo slow.  Taking the first few miles as an indicator I could have gone at least 20 minutes quicker. Being better organised in transition. Anne-Marie's flapjacks will be my standard fuel going forward.  So much nicer than energy gels and much more palatable. I thought before hand it would be hard but to be honest i really enjoyed it.  The atmosphere and support were fantastic and taking these learnings i could make big improvements. I intend to do some more of these middle distance triathlons and get the technique right bef...

Praa Sands - 30/05/23

Today we ventured further afield going to Praa Sands a beautiful wide beach.  Learning from yesterday we set up above the high tide line.     Girls were tired today and a little more lethargic and had brief dips in the sea before sunning themselves. Mel and I had a few games of frisbee and I had a good swim. Afterwards chatting to one of the lifeguards who talked about the area he covers for the season.     He could cover anywhere from Praa sands to Coverack. He’s only been back in the UK for a month after lifeguard in Australia. The girls and Robert were a little tired and just chilled for some of the time. We had some excellent pasties for lunch and the girls had milkshakes agonising over which of the 22 flavours to choose from.   For the afternoon we headed to Porth Levan and had a lovely Cornish afternoon tea in the Twisted current tea room .    Robert wanted the jumbo fish finger sandwich. London Marathon 2016 Race Day

Slept really well and was up at 7:10 and breakfast of porridge and bananas followed by toast with boiled eggs.  Quick shower and I'm ready to go.  The overnight rain had stopped and it was cold with a very fresh breeze. Short walk to the Shard and the London bridge station for the overground train to Blackheath and the blue start. Trains were rammed and I wasn't able to get onto he first two which came along.  The third was just as rammed but just enough room to get on.  Warmest I'd been all morning at this point.  You just needed to follow the crowds to the blue start.  Where everything was clearly signed.  I kept my top and hat on for as long as possible to avoid getting too cold before handing in my baggage. Superbly organised the baggage handling. Queues for the toilets were large as expected but the queues moved pretty rapidly.
