Shut up Brain

This weekend the plan threw in an assessment run for me.  The run itself was a nice good run and I managed to go further in the assessment period than I have for nearly a year so a really positive outcome.  Upon loading the run into TrainasOne the plan for Sunday changed with a significant change in pace for the Long run.

For some reason I seemed to have a bit of a mental block on doing this run with my Brain constantly questioning whether I'd be able to maintain this change of pace.  So all day Sunday I have this nagging thought at the back of my mind that wouldn't go away.  So I kind of put off doing the run.

I eventually forced myself out for the run in the early evening and found I switched to the new pace very comfortably and easily maintained the new pace for the whole run bar one blip where I covered the mile 20s slower than intended.  It was odd how my mind was playing tricks on my ability to run at the changed pace.  Considering I have completed races at a much quicker pace.

Tim at work mentioned something about the power of the mind to deceive you and here is the link which is an interesting view. I'm definitely going to try some of this.
