Chase the Train 2016

Image
Sunday turned out to be a hot day! We got to Alysham station with just under an hour till the race start and the station car park was pretty much full.  Plenty of runners already about at registration and warming up. Registration was located in a room just off the platform and picking up race number and timing chip was quick and seamless.  Chip timing was being used for the first time this year. After a little preparation and to help Mel out with the girls and Robert I made my way to the start line with everyone else for the race briefing which was a few minutes before the start.  This year the Bure Valley Railway had put on an extra train for the runners to return on.  The runners had a 10 minute head start on the Train, for me this wasn't going to be enough to beat the train.  20 minutes and I may have stood a chance. The best supporters you could have ! Once the race started you could hear a chorus of bleeps as everyone started t...

On the Bike & Harvey

Image
This week the cycle training has really kicked up a gear.  Less and less turbo session and more outdoors including cycling to work more regularly.  I've left the Tri-bars setup on the bike to get used to cycling for long periods in the aero position and even after just a couple of times I'm feeling so much more comfortable in the position and have held it on the journey home for long periods. A poor attempt at a selfie on the way home.  Glorious day to ride though. The ankle since the spring waveney tri has been good.  I've deliberately reduced my running to give whatever niggle the chance to recover.  As such I've had no pain and no swelling in it.  The first real test will be this weekend on the "Chase the Train" race.  A nice little 9 mile race from Aylsham to Wroxham along the Bure Valley railway footpath.  It's a beautiful little run and the train ride back is always fun.  Plus its a good day out for the family.  Girls real...

Spring Waveney Tri

I really enjoy this event and was slightly disappointed the autumn 2015 event had to be changed to a duathlon due to pool maintenance. Although the event was really good and was my first ever duathlon I still wanted to break the hour barrier for the trip version of the event. Weather couldn't have been more perfect warm and sunny with a bit of a breeze.  The event it self is perfect for all abilities and it is great to see all ages and abilities competing.  I wasn't expecting great things this time round for me as I have had a painful and swollen ankle since the London marathon.  It was really only Saturday when it had returned to normal and the swelling had gone.  I really wanted to test out how I went ahead of the half Ironman in June. Registration opened at 6:30 until 7:45 and was quick and easy and on a first come first served basis.  You were handed your timing chip and numbers for your shirt / race belt and sticky numbers for you bike and helmet. ...

Tri Harder Open Water Swim

Image
First open water swim of the year and the water was freezing.  This was also a really good opportunity to try out my Garmin 910XT at swimming.  The results are a little mixed at the moment as this is the first time swimming with it.  Set it on open water swim.  Had GPS signal but I did notice it was't always maintaining signal whilst swimming.  Will have to practice this over the next few weeks to see if i'm doing anything wrong. The swim session was reduced to half an hour due to the water temp and that definitely felt about right.  Felt good swimming although the wetsuit felt weird after not having used it for a while.  Mel, the girls and Robert came to watch and the girls were fascinated by all the nutters braving the freezing water.  The event was really well organised and i'll definitely volunteer to help next year on this. My right foot has swollen a little since the marathon so have only done one run in the lead up to the spring waven...
