Autumn Waveney Triathlon
So after last weeks North Norfolk Triathlon it was nice to have come to this one feeling in good shape. Was up at the ungodly hour of 5 so I could get to registration early as didn't want to be one of the last ones off and also needed to be back fairly promptly as Amy and Sophie had a party to go to.
Into the pool for the my wave and my swim was consistent as previous years and about 3 of my wave left the pool within a minute of each other. T1 was a bit of a fail as I had something in my cycle shoe which i didn't notice until my foot was in it. So a quick empty of the shoe and i was onto the ride.
Registration as always is quick and slick. Managed to get into the third wave and was lucky number 13?
Transition setup was all done with none of last weeks panic and the race brief was the usual light hearted and friendly outlining of the rules. This really is a great event for the first timers. The course is a good one which is just about perfect to challenge without being too difficult.
Always foggy when the event comes around but this soon burned off.
I maintained a good pace and picked off riders fairly consistently. I did get held up for about 30 seconds when a 4x4 wouldn't go past a slower cyclist. When it became obvious he wasn't going to over take I had to force my way past.
Into T2 and my dismount was just about perfect. I slightly overcooked my pace but I have practiced the dismount and it felt very quick.
The run was again smooth and comfortable and although a little slower than I would have liked I'm not sure I could have gone much quicker. I finished in 1:00:35. I would have been under the hour were it not for the slow car and the extra contents of my shoe.
On the plus side I did top the leader board for my age category for a brief stint.
Next year I'm really looking to smash my time on this and feel I could really get up the leader board. The training for cycling and running has been low and I can see clear opportunities to improve.
