Holt 10k
Makes a nice change to have a race which doesn't start at the crack of dawn. I was up to Holt at 9:45 for a 10:30 start. The registration was in the sports hall of Gresham's and was a quick and easy process based on surname. In the pack was the race number, timing chip, a fetching pink t shirt. The winners trophies were also on display. Got myself ready and pinned on my race number using the clip on race number holders.
Ready to go. The race clips worked really well and the bonus is you don't end up with loads of holes in your shirt.
The start is a good 5 minute walk from the sports hall and the best part of the first km is on grass sports field. Going back past the sports hall and then out onto the roads. The second km is mostly down hill and at this time on a Sunday the roads were quiet. My running felt smooth and I really tried to keep a focus on good form and it really felt comfortable. The couple of short hills i tested my self and it felt like I really flew up these overtaking quite a few people in the process.
After a short off road section it was back onto the narrow backroads before the half (ish) turning point
All the marshals on the course were really friendly and cheering everyone along.
Weather was glorious after the overnight shower with pretty much perfect conditions. My training has been hampered by a really heavy cold which I just haven't been able to shift. As I was approaching the finish I got passed by the conac runner and was determined not to let him beat me so managed a strong sprint finish to complete the race in 48:26. About a minute off my pb which i'm really pleased with.
At the finish the timing chip is whipped off and I was handed a banana and bottle of water. I really enjoyed this one and it had a really friendly atmosphere.
