Everything turns upside down

You may have noticed it has been an age since my last post.  It's been a really busy 6 months for us.  In this time i've only competed in one race and a park run.  I will add a post about these when I have the chance.  So what have I been up to this year?

Well at the end of November my wife Mel found a lump in her left breast.  After a few trips to the GP and further scans at hospital it was confirmed that she had breast cancer and it had spread into her lymph nodes under her arm.  Before the scans had confirmed this we kind of knew what to expect but even so we were both stunned and shocked.  Initially we didn't know whether this had spread further around her body or not and she had to have further scans to reveal the extent of the cancer.  These scans included one where she had a radioactive isotope added via an injection so what ever they were looking for showed up on scans.
To say this was an emotional experience would be a bit of an understatement.  It did feel like we were hanging in limbo waiting for the outcome of the scans.  We did have a few trips over Christmas planned with the family and managed to enjoy these despite the uncertainty.
Then a few days before Christmas we had a call from the hospital confirming the cancer hadn't spread any further and she could begin a course of treatment on the 3rd Jan this year.  This would be with the intention of a complete cure.  Best News Ever and the timing was perfect as it enabled us to feel really positive and enjoy Christmas and the New Year.

Birthday Get Away

So Christmas was good and we had family round Christmas Day and New Years Eve.  Then on the 2nd Jan Mel and I went down to London to see The Lion King show.  This included a stay next to Trafalgar square.  We managed to palm the kids off with gran parents for the night so had a really chilled stroll around St James' park before trip around the National Gallery before going back to the hotel to change before going for a meal and to see the show.

The show was amazing, but the most fascinating thing of the whole thing for me was how the stage was used.  After the show it was back to the hotel as an early start was due the next day to get back to Norwich for Mel to start her treatment.
