Trowse 10k

Image
Trowse 10k today and the stormy weather from last night thankfully had passed and we were treated to a glorious morning.  The lost hour of sleep wasn't as bad a I thought as kids slept in. The parking was clearly signed and was a 10 min walk from county hall to the ski club.  Marshall's were really friendly and welcoming and the registration process in the clubhouse was quick and painless. It was at this point I discovered my watch was out of charge so was forced to use my phone and the strava app.  Which after a couple of false starts I managed to work out how to use it. After a quick cuppa I caught up with a few old friends before heading to the start.  Again I placed myself around the middle of the group to avoid the customary headless chicken start.  Again this plan worked well and once up to pace I maintained it well throughout which was really pleasing.  As with the Hunny Bell I didn't have many people passing me after the first few kil...

Part 1 Just Got Real

This arrived this morning. Only a month till the London Marathon and part 1 of my challenge.

Shut up Brain

Image
This weekend the plan threw in an assessment run for me.  The run itself was a nice good run and I managed to go further in the assessment period than I have for nearly a year so a really positive outcome.  Upon loading the run into TrainasOne the plan for Sunday changed with a significant change in pace for the Long run. For some reason I seemed to have a bit of a mental block on doing this run with my Brain constantly questioning whether I'd be able to maintain this change of pace.  So all day Sunday I have this nagging thought at the back of my mind that wouldn't go away.  So I kind of put off doing the run. I eventually forced myself out for the run in the early evening and found I switched to the new pace very comfortably and easily maintained the new pace for the whole run bar one blip where I covered the mile 20s slower than intended.  It was odd how my mind was playing tricks on my ability to run at the changed pace.  Considering I have complete...

Running Photos Take 2

Image
Glorious day today so seemed like it would be rude not to take phone with me to do some proper tests on picture quality whilst running. Today's run was alongside the River and then around the cathedral. Standing Standing Running Running - This is ok if a little blurry Running Running - Taken backwards Running Running Running Overall pretty pleased with how these have come out.  I didn't try to do anything special whilst taking the pics just point and shoot not even slowing.  Again carrying the phone seemed fine.

Garmin 910XT Battery Life

Image
I'm currently using a Garmin 910 XT to record my data.  One thing I have noticed recently is the battery display you get when switching off the device is a little misleading. The picture on the left is the display I got before my run on Friday night.  The picture on the right is the view before my run on Sunday.  Between to two pictures I ran for two and a half hours and then swtiched the watch off between runs and no charging.  I believe the empty battery image happens at around 15% - 20%. My Sunday run was 90 mins and the watch did bleep to alert me of the low battery  (10%) during this run.  But but even after my run the battery had only reduced to 7%.  Between getting the empty battery and finishing my Sunday run I had run for 240 mins in all and still had 7% battery left.

Running Photo Tests

Image
I never took any pics last time I ran the marathon and have decided to document in more detail this time round.  This weekend I ran 6ish mile Friday night, 9 Saturday morning and another 9 Sunday morning.  All part of my TrainasOne plan. I've been looking into getting some sort of camera to snap pics during the runs and my first port of call was my trusty old iPhone.  Sunday was a glorious day and the decision to take the phone with me was a little bit of a spur of the moment. Two other reasons for bringing the phone were to see how annoying (or not) carrying the phone is and also to see if it hindered taking on energy gels during the run. The first test was a running picture and the second picture I stopped for comparison. Running Still The results I was quite impressed with considering this is only an iPhone.  Here are a couple more from later in the run. Running Still Again the results are pleasing considering I don't want to have...

Post Hunny Bell Fun

Image
I really enjoyed the hunny bell XC run and felt really good before during and after.  The following morning on the way into work with Neil he drove into the back of the car in front on the harford roundabout. I felt fine but over the last couple of days my left butt cheek and left hand side of my lower back have been uncomfortable.  This hasn't stopped me running but my back has been tight when it never was before.  Hot bath doesn't seem to have touched it much either.  Going to have to work on my core a little more to help strengthen everything up ahead of the marathon and ironman. My Train as one training plan is starting to up the mileage as well which is good and doesn't seem so onerous as before.  My plan for my weekend runs was Saturday morning and Sunday morning but weather and prior engagements postponed Saturday's run until the evening.  Then Sunday's run was first thing.  Very little recovery time between them meant my legs felt reall...

This caught my eye

Saw this article about a biker being attacked by a demonic squirrel. http://lifeisaroad.com/stories/2004/10/29/neighborhoodHazardorWhyTheCopsWontPatrolBriceStreet.html Was sent this Metro article link today which made me chuckle. http://metro.co.uk/2016/01/25/after-her-owner-let-her-out-to-pee-this-dog-accidentally-ran-a-half-marathon-and-came-7th-5642470/?ITO=SendToAFriend

Hunny Bell XC

Image
So Sunday was the first proper race of the year for me, the Hunny Bell cross country in aid of Break .  The early ish start did seem like a mistake especially when there was a very brief hail shower.  Fortunately at registration there were hot drinks available so my warm up mainly consisted of a cuppa, standing by the heater and deciding which cake to have once finished. The route this year was the reverse of previous years and the first time chip timing has been used.  I was looking forward to the route in reverse as the bottleneck at the start would be eliminated.  On the downside I was convinced we would have this to run up to the finish. Note to self read the route map a little more closely next time. It was nice to see a few familiar faces on the start line before we were off. I started close to the rear of the field as I have a habit of going off like a rocket then blowing up half a mile down the road. Plus the training plan I'm using for the Lond...
